What dyer reckon - 1841 census - your lot are Leicester/Nottingham arent they? I dont know the area. If I were you, Id go back to Family search IGI and see the names of the other parents of Poxon kids around the same time in the same place as this Samuel boy - that will give you an idea of the family group. Ann Poxon abt 1822 Nottinghamshire, England St Mary Nottinghamshire >>>> Elizabeth Poxon abt 1828 Nottinghamshire, England St Mary Nottinghamshire Emma Poxon abt 1836 Nottinghamshire, England St Mary Nottinghamshire George Poxon abt 1840 Nottinghamshire, England St Mary Nottinghamshire Jane Poxon abt 1801 Nottinghamshire, England St Mary Nottinghamshire John Poxon abt 1832 Nottinghamshire, England St Mary Nottinghamshire Joseph Poxon abt 1796 Nottinghamshire, England St Mary Nottinghamshire Or this lot? Ann Poxon abt 1786 Weston upon Trent Derbyshire >>> Elizabeth Poxon abt 1825 Derbyshire, England Weston upon Trent Derbyshire Jane Poxon abt 1822 Derbyshire, England Weston upon Trent Derbyshire Thomas Poxon abt 1781 Derbyshire, England Weston upon Trent Derbyshire Hopefully one of the supersleuths will get on the trail for you - meanwhile I better get back to sorting out old cheque book stubs and paying in books for the accountant who is whinging. |

Sorry, did he appear as Samuel Poxon on the IGI? If so, he would be illegitimate. If you enter that reference you have from the IGI into the box at the bottom of the IGI search, you can bring up the possible other Poxon kids baptised in that place. May be you are right - possibly they got it round the wrong way. Just been to have a peek and it seems likely they werent married as they give him as Samuel Poxon or Upton dont they! If you use the ref you bring up a bunch of Poxon kids in there but I tried using the name Upton with same ref and none came up. So next job - track down the Elizabeth! |

Samuel should be shown as Samuel Upton on the census if he were this couples child. If his name is still Poxon then he is either a son's child or an illegitimate child of one of the daughters. So could there be an older girl who left home before the census? Is the baptism the rightish age for this Samuel and right place? Only way to be sure is ............buy his cert. But can there not be another Poxon family related to your lot in the area who have an Elizabeth who married Mr Upton? |

Hi all Right where to start. When setting out I put all the families together when it came to grandchildren I put them with the oldest girl if it looked possible now I have come across something I am not sure about. On the 1851 census ref H0107/2140 folio 85 p 4 we have my Poxon family on which is little Samuel stated as grandson noting what I have just said I put him for Future ref under Mary now while going through the IGI records I have come across Samuel Father thomas Upton mother elizabeth Poxon C053801 dates 1813-1868 0592567 0883631 do you think they are the same one if so WHO is Elizabeth Regards Laura sorry christened on the 3 mar 1844 lockington |
