Sometimes thats all you can do search through all index's quater by quarter year by year :( (and even go do the same ones 10 times over :( ) I have sat for hours and hours going through BMD index searching for my dads real family I had thier names place of birth thier mum & dads names and that was it. Didnt know for sure what year they were born and how many had been born. It seems like a mountain to climb but the results are amazing if you have the patience (something im usually not lol) ive run back to the board many times asking stupid questions lol, cus I was getting no where with my very ellusive nanna. stick with it you will feel so proud when you smash a hole in ya brick wall. Good luck x Angie x

It is possible that you are looking in the wrong place on ancestry, depending on what year you are looking for. As you have a marriage certificate giving ages (not always accurate though) first go to ancestry home page. Then click on the link for England and Wales BMD Index If the birth year you are looking for is before 1900 then try the partial FreeBMD first If not there go to Complete BMD Index ranges & Images Births On the search screen enter the name you want in the boxes making sure you get first name and surname the right way round. May sound silly, but some search pages have them the other way round and it is easy to get confused. Enter the birth year you have worked out from the marriage certificate and put 1 in the +/- box This will give you 12 images to look at, 3 years and 4 quarter in each year. It is then a case of wading through the images until you find what you are looking for. If you still dont find them, try looking forward and backward a year, as they didnt always tell the truth about their ages. Hope this helps a bit.

Rebecca, do you want to post up the details of the search you are trying to do so we can help you find what you are looking for? Or if you don't want to put the details up on the boards, then send me a private message and I will see what I can do. Kate.
