I tried to import an update of my tree from PAF to GR using GEDCOM, for the first time at the beginning of this month. My tree is now rubbish as on GR my FORENAME is shown as (UNKNOWN) Mddle name shows my Surname and Surname shows my forenames. When I try to ammend this manually GR will not allow me to change my details but i have been able to change other names on my tree. Any ideas please |

Just checked the Faqs and one of the requirements is that It must be exported from yout tree program as a gedcom 5.5 with the character set ANSI. This is the default setting on FTM, but I'm not sure about PAF. It is worth checking. |

Be careful with PAF, when you export the data to gedcom it may omit some dates when it's uploaded to GR or into any other family history program, PAF recognises for example circa. 1881 as a valid date, FTM does not as a date entered as circa 1881 is not standard gedcom format, it should read Abt. 1881 which is the correct gedcom format. If you have dates like this they will be ignored and not entered into the new file when it's imported into the FTM program or GR. Ron www.genealogyprinters*com |
