Anyone know what a detaller is in a coal mine?

Um - think its 'detailer'. This was to do with taking the 'tailings' out of the coal - the useless dust and tiny bits that couldnt be sold. OC

its probably dataller someone paid on a daily basis, possibly working on the surface. I think the men who shored up the roof were also included in this description. (the chaps who actually cut the coal were paid by the ton)
