Thanks Christine, I will print that and keep it to explain to the family. Kids think its funny (should I say my cousins) but my husband doesn't believe me and thinks its impossible. Selena

Okay, my daughters are my 3rd cousins once removed! No wonder I am confused.

The ancestor you are descended from through both grandparents is your 2g-grandfather, therefore you are your own 3rd cousin. Your children are 4th cousins to each other. I have this in my family as my great-grandparents were first cousins, and my ftm worked it out that I am my own 4th cousin. Liz

I do not see how you can be once removed from yourself when you are of the same generation descended from each cousin. (That sounds complicated but I know what I mean). Liz

It comes out as I am my own third cousin once removed. My daughters come out as 4th cousins as well as sisters. What relationship am to my grandad? What relationship am I to my dad? Help! Selena

My grandparents were first cousins (their mothers were sisters). My grandparents did not marry but my father was their illegitimateson. I have spent hours on FTM trying to work out the family relationships. Can anyone help? Selena
