Hi, from my experience you need to look at Bishops Transcripts next. Some have been copied to the internet, some you have to go and look at. Family Search site is good for a start. I contacted the local LDS church and they where able to order the Transcripts for the area i wanted. But i will say some of it is just scraps of paper, but there are plenty of good records to see also. I am kinda new to this befor 1800s lark. I have used the Transripts and found them quite usfull. Hope that gives you some idea of where to go next. |

Start with the IGI on www.familysearch.org It is't complete but you might be lucky and find that the parishes you need have been added. Heather |

Thanks! Just another quick question. If you go to the place where someone was born, say Surrey & went to the records office, would you find their details there? As you can see i'm very new to all this but loving it! |

Hi there, If you are talking about Surrey and not using it just for an example the Surrey history centre is in woking Surrey and they have all the records on Microfiche, however this means surrey as we know it now. Areas named in the census as wandswroth surrey or Lambeth surrey would mean a trip to the London metropolitan archives. some records offices are willing to carry out searches on your behalf, for a small fee of course. i had the Derbyshire one do a search for me as I live in Sussex. Good Luck Fuzzy x |

Hallo You need www.genuki.org.uk/big/ you can scroll down, choose which country and then county you want and then the town or parish. You will find a page that may have some information about the place and will have information about where parish registers and other records are kept. Or you can google. nell |

I personally wouldnt use Bishops Transcripts, unless that was all there was. Nothing can beat the primary source document - the Parish Register. It too may have mistakes on it of course, but at least they will be the FIRST mistake. It is good research practice to always refer to the primary source document in any situation. OC |

I agree with you old corne---you can't trust anything that has been transcribed it's alway's best to read the rel thing for yourself. |

Heather Well, I did say 'unless there is nothing else!' Luckily, most of mine lived in such remote areas that the Luftwaffe didnt even know they were there. OC |
