hiya, juts been reading thread and see that your having problems, do you know what her initials stand for???? is it possible that the edith you have found is actually HER but is one of her middle names??? it wasnt uncommon for a child to be using a middle name on census, (I have several). Just a thought, when you said you had searched the bmd index, did you mean Freebmd, or ancestrys complete index???? Julie |

I've looked under Furze and can't find her and I have also looked under some of the misspellings. I think I'm going to give up now. I've found her on the 1871 and 1881 census and they both place her as being born abt 1865/66 so I am going to take this as her birth date. I'll assume she was never registered. Thanks for everyones help |

Her mothers maiden name was Furze, I didn't think of that. I'll have a look and if I can't find her I'll assume that she wasn't registered. Thanks for your help |

Could be she was born before her mother married and so was registered in mother's maiden name rather than Larner. It could be one of those initials is the initial of her original surname. |

she may not have been registered. the law was tightened in 1875 to make you register all births before that she may have slipped the net. My great grandmother was born around 1900 and was never registered. could also be she was missed of the GRO index, some names were. |

Help! I have found Mary Larner on the 1871 census as Mary R E Larner born abt 1866 living with her mum Mary Larner, younger brother John Samuel Larner and lodger Samuel Furze. Looking at the census image she is recorded as Mary A E Larner. However, I can't find any record of her birth! I have looked through the free BMD images 10 yrs either side of her birth and although I can find loads of Mary Larners none match the location of Stoke Demerel, Devon. I have found her younger brother John and her sister Edith but I can't find her. It's driving me mad! Please help Cheers Leila |
