I'd guess that TREWEEN is just a variant (if not rogue!) spelling of TREWIN/TREWYN. It's only recently that people have started to fix the spelling of their names. Christine |

Vicoria, There are still BROWNs in Tintagel. I live 4 miles from there. A TREWIN in nearby Delabole but no Treweens. Marie |

By the way - the Cornish genealogy world seems to be extremely active - lots of OPCs and online material. May be worth joining the Cornish FHS, if only for a while? Christine |

You could try this (Cornish, Tintagel, Phillimore image): http://www.uk-genealogy.org.uk/england/Cornwall/towns/t/Tintagel/index.html There's a possible: 30 Dec 1812 Richard TREWEEN & Mary HEMMING It's the very last in the list. Christine |

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could find the wife of one of my ancestors? I have tried everything I can think of, but she is so far proving elusive. This is the info I have on the husband. Richard Trewin (or Trewyn) born c1791 in Tintagel, Cornwall. His daughter Elizabeth was born 1832 also in Tintagel and married William Brown from Tintagel. I have found Richard on the following census returns: 1861 (Trewin) as a widow living with William and Elizabeth as Father in law 1851 mis-transcribed as Richard Tuccio (!) with a son and daughter. His wife isn't listed, but I can't make out whether he is down as married or widowed. 1841 (Trewyn) but the listing only shows heads of households. I have tried looking for Elizabeth's birth to get the cert, but don't seem to be able to find that either. Nor can I find a likely looking marriage for Richard. I'm beginning to think I'm destined not to find her! Any suggestions as to where to go from here would be very welcome. Thanks, Victoria. |
