There is this death entry that might be her dad in 1838: Name: Robert Akenhead Year of Registration: 1838 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Stockton County: Co. Durham, North Riding Of Yorkshire Volume: 24 Page: 145 (

Your going to have to track down the parish registers for her place of birth and see if they have a baptism then! I've just looked on the BIVRI, but nothing there :o(( Merry

In 1851, there is a Robert Akenhead, born 1830 in Carlton Durham. I can't see him in 1841, but I'll bet he's the brother of your Frances.

When you say, ''Robert was on the certificate'' what do you mean? If you mean he wasn't recorded as dec'd......most vicar's didn't ask. if you mean he was a witness, that might be the bride's brother! Merry

Dee They didn't always remember to mention that their father was deceased. The father's name would appear on a cert even if he was deceased, but the only difference being that if the registrar was told he would normally put it in brackets after the name or in the occupation column. Does it show his occupation by the way?

where it says who the dad was on the marriage cert it says robert was frances dad

If it was me I would def get that death cert for Robert that Athena posted the ref for. it's quite an unusual name so is pretty likely to be your rellie even if it isn't Frances father (but I bet it is him!!!!) If there's a Record Office at Stockton, I would phone and ask if they have what you want! Merry

Yes, that's what I would do, too. Not everything is 'black and white' in genealogy - sometimes the most obscure and unobvious path is the one that it turns out to be LOL And, as Merry says, with such an unusual name, from the area your family were from, even it turns out not to be her father, chances are high that it'll be a brother/cousin etc, so not a waste of money. Sometimes it's worth taking the plunge and going for those long shots!
