I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND MY MOTHER FOR YEARS AND COME UP WITH A SLIGHTLY ODD STORY! I AM THE YOUNGEST OF FOUR AND BORN IN 1958. MY PARENTS SPLIT IN 1959. I HAVE TRACED MY FATHER AND FOUND HE DIED IN 1987 WITHOUT ME EVER MEETING HIM. HOWEVER, MUM IS ANOTHER STORY! THERE ARE NO TRACES OF HER IN MARRIED OR MAIDEN NAME. THERE IS NO DOCTORS LISTING FOR HER SINCE 1959. THERE IS NO DIVORCE RECORD AND NO DEATH REGISTERED. SHE HAD A HISTORY OF DEPRESSIVE ILLNESS AND HAD ATTEMPTED TO TAKE HER OWN LIFE ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. IT IS NOT BELIEVED THAT SHE LEFT THE COUNTRY. IF SHE JUST STARTED TO USE ANOTHER NAME, IT WOULD HAVE EVENTUALLY COME UP AT SOME TIME FOR A NUMBER OF LEGAL REASONS. SHE WAS REGISTERED MISSING IN 1959 AND A NUMBER OF PEOPLE QUESTIONED, BUT UNFORTUNATELY, NO RECORDS REMAIN. ANY IDEAS???

Do you have a birth for her?

How do you know there are no doctors listings for her ? where are you accessing that sort of info? My guess is that she changed her name and started a new life , without knowing what name she chose to use, you are a bit stumped really. . IF SHE JUST STARTED TO USE ANOTHER NAME, IT WOULD HAVE EVENTUALLY COME UP AT SOME TIME FOR A NUMBER OF LEGAL REASONS. << if she changed her name and moved , I am curious as to what would have evenually come up to identify her to you SHE WAS REGISTERED MISSING IN 1959 < registered with who? Police? Sally Army? AND A NUMBER OF PEOPLE QUESTIONED< who and in what context? ( and where have you found this info , if no records exist?) I'm not just being nosy - I hunted out my birth mother despite 2 name changes Jess

She was registered missing a long time ago. As Jess says, she could have just changed her name and moved on. You do not need to go through any legal formalities to do this and you can choose any name you like. She may have left the country to live abroad. Perhaps if she was depressed she did commit suicide but her body wasn't identified. I don't know how likely this is, but thousands of people go missing every year and they aren't all found. Who were the people who were questioned and how do you know about this? Have you tried Traceline? nell
