Babydoll www.familysearch.org is free. Just put Barchou in the surname searchbox. www.ancestry*co.uk is a subscription service - but some bmds are free, though you need to register. You can see the same bmds free on Freebmd - google for the address. You could also try searching for Bar* as the -chou bit is probably the most likely to be incorrectly recorded. But the most effective way is to start with you and work your way back with certificates to 1901. If you can't find any people on 1901 you could try putting relevant names on the REcords office board here for people to look - or you might assume that the Barchou name is foreign and the family came over to England AFTER 1901. nell |

Hi Babydoll I was just having a very quick browse before closing down, and this intrigued me so I've done a bit of googling and asking Jeeves! There seems to be quite a number of mentions of Baron Barchou de Penhoen, and I've put one of the links below in case it might be of interest (remember to remove brackets). http://www.classicsarchive(.)com/G/books/Gobseck_-_Honore_de_Balzac/ Mandy :) |

Ancestry has these results for a Barchou search: England & Wales, Birth Index: 1984-2004 12 England & Wales, Death Index: 1984-2004 5 England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index: 1837-1983 19 England & Wales, FreeBMD Death Index: 1837-1983 6 England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index: 1837-1983 6 England & Wales, Marriage Index: 1984-2004 14 If you take into account alternative spellings/mistranscriptions etc there are probably more. www.familysearch.org has 3 London baptisms and one in Copenhagen on the IGI. nell |
