Thanks for this link Sharon. My dear old nan, whose dad was a gardener for a race horce owner in Newmarket always claimed she was named after a horse. I've just searched on her christian names and there it was, 'Lily Agnes' ran in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket in October 1875 :-) (nan was born in 1878) |

My eldest accidently managed to go there today, but didn't she bring back a gem. There is an exhibition on Celebrating 100 years of the British Newspaper. (Well worth a visit if you are near she reckons) She also brought me home some copies of newspapers from across the years.
