This prob wont help sorry :( x But dont always believe that just cus theres a certain name on a marriage cert or address its not always correct (I have found this out this week lol and phew my great wall of china cam smashing down yippee) I had the same problem my Nans name on her marriage cert my dads birth cert my grandads death cert and the index's for her remarriages all said the same name except for the last one where one of the middle names had been missed off. Then I found her death index and suddenly the first name had dissappeared altogether. The first name was never her name and was made up lol for reasons I now know but bloody hell what a nightmare ive had trying to discover my nans dob and place of birth. Im having the same prob with my maternal great grandad (tho hes easier to trace cus I know where he was born etc cus my mums still with me as is one of my aunts and they tell me snippets makes things a lot easier to figure out) But maybe your great grandad dropped a first name and is using a middle name just a thought good luck tho xxxxxxxx Angie xxx

Hi Reg, the two witnesses were 'J Schofield' and 'J Schofield'. James Schofield married the bride's mother. He became the bride's stepdad. Her mother died and he went on to marry again. He had 5 children with his new wife. At their home, the bride lived with them. Can you actually view the marriage records at a register office?

Who were the witnesses to the Marriage? Might be some help there........... Reg

Just bear in mind that saying you were 22 at marriage might just be a flash way of pretending to be ''of age'', when in fact you were 20 or less!! (non-flash people just said they were 21 lol) Merry

Heather, thank you for coming back to me. His father was William Jobling, a blacksmith and not deceased at the time of thw marriage, but I noticed that his father was not a witness on the certificate. The groom TW Jobling was a Labourer in a ship yard.

The one i found is a real minefield. Two Jobling families at two adjacent properties,both appear to be public houses and there are maybe 15 Joblings in total. 1891 RG12/4208 ED 4 Folio 57 pg 25 St Nicholas Newcastle image saved but still looking Glen

Just to make sure you don't restrict youself to the wrong dataset - the arithmetic would give DoB 1880-81. Christine

First thought after a quick look at the 1891 and seeing several Thomas Joblings for 1881-1883 births is that he might not have been born that close to where he married. I did find a 10 year old Thomas in the 91 with a father called John.Father was an assistant to a blacksmith. The districts that cover the births for the North East ofren come under volume 10b and cover the whole width of the country. Of course this includes Berwick and that is only a spit from Scotland. I have a few rellies who married in the area but moved there with the boom of industry,mostly born a distance away in the rural backwaters. Glen

Well, firstly they probably werent both living at that addy, it was for convenience to avoid paying for 2 lots of banns, so dont let the address restrict your net. The fathers occupation should be a help when looking for the son.What was it? And what was the grooms job? And also dad may be named as William on the cert but use another name in every day life.

I am attempting to trace a THOMAS WILLIAM JOBLING. 1. I have his marriage cert. DOM: 3/4/1903 - married Louisa Bignal Notman. HIS father named as William Jobling - a blacksmith. Both parties lived together at Louisa's stepfather's home in South Shields at the time of marriage. 2. Both parties were 22 yrs on the date of their marriage. So TW Jobling must have been born 1881/82. I have searched the Census records on line and found all the TWJ's born at that time in the North-East area. I have requested the birth certificates for all three of the TWJ's that I have found, but I am informed by the Register Offices that none of them have a father named William Jobling. Where do I go from here? I'm really bamboozled! Please somebody guide me......................... Donna
