Thanks Roger. I've been searching for ages now and can't find any children. I was hoping that the Will would list children but it has all gone to nieces and nephews. I'm assuming that William and Mary Ann are in Middlesex for the Census as they are there in 1851. I think I can account for the Cains that you have listed and they are mainly his brothers and sisters (large families) Thanks for trying and I had to chuckle over your comments ref Alverstoke. I live about a 5 minute drive from Stokes Bay, so if I went any further I'd get wet!

Also on previous page, i.e. p24, there's a William Cains born c.1771, who just might be your William's father. (If you're near the Solent you won't need to be told how close Alverstoke is to Gosport !) Roger

Jan, I don't know if this will help, but there's a John Cains born c. 1800, living at Alverstoke with his family who looks as though he might be a sibling of your William, in the 1841 census. Perhaps some of his children were beneficiaries of William's will? Ref is HO/107/388/9 f.55 p.25 Good hunting Roger

Thanks for the replies. I have just received a copy of William's will from 1866 and I was hoping for children but all the monies have been left to nephews and nieces. I found him on the 1851 and it ties up with the address on his Will but I haven't any children for him yet.

Do you have any idea where they might be (did they have children and where were they born?)..... It's so much harder with the 1841 and having no place of birth recorded. If only Ancestry had transcribed occupations to help us with the 1841 it would be easier!! Merry

I have a William Cains born 1794 Gosport Hants and his wife, Mary Ann born 1793 Gosport, Hants. On the 1851 they are living at 33 Hart Road, Bloomsbury, Middlesex but I can't find them before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
