Thanks Christine. That was something I hadn't realised/remembered. Lets hope the cert turns up soon, Barbara |

Chrsitine OMG - I hadn't thought of that. Which is one of the reasons I've asked for help. Thanks for the tip. I can see a few more hours trawling on this one. Barbara |

Don't forget it could easily be mistranscribed (even at the original stages) as HALGH instead of HAIGH. And the earlier you get, the greater the chance of it appearing in any set of letters which might produce the right sound: HAY, HAYE, HAIGHE, HAIE... Christine |

Heather Thanks for that suggestion as well. did have a quick lok for that this morning and the only one I've found anywhere near was an Annie Newton marrying an Arthur Hague in Barnsley in Apr qtr 1903. Might be an outside possibility? I'll keep looking at that though. Barbara |

Thanks for that OC. Just had a quick look and that doesn't look too bad! There are only 85 Annie Haigh's listed as wifes and 15 as heads of household. Barbara |

You could have a nose to see when/where she married Mr Haigh when she was Miss Newton in the meantime? |

While you are waiting for the marriage cert, you could trawl the 1901, looking for Mrs Annie Haigh and see how many turn up. OC |

I really think that you have to get the marriage cert - then hopefully you will have the info about her father to let you search the 1901 census. Good luck Kris |

From a birth cert dated 25/06/1907, place of birth Barlborough, registered Chesterfield, I have parents names Peter Presley and Annie Presley late Haigh formerly Newton. I’ve found a marriage in Halifax between Peter Presley and Annie Haigh in Jun Qtr 1905. But - how do I find out where Annie came from? With such a common name I’ll obviously need to have some more definite information to track her back onto the censuses. The marriage certificate will hopefully give me an age and her father’s name. I’ve tried trawling but I can’t see an appropriate death (as Ann(ie) Pres(s)ley) in the Ancestry BMD indexes to give me an idea of her year of birth which would narrow things down a bit. I’ve also had a look on FHO, but the records on there are all too early to be of help. So what do I try next (apart from ordering the marriage cert)? All suggestions and help on this would be greatly appreciated Barbara |
