Lindy, - I think that is AWFULL!!!!!!! - If they KNOW there are 100's of people missing but don't care - that is NOT acceptable!!!!!! They can't just say it is cast in bronze so we can't add any more!!!!! I'm sorry - this sort of thing doesn't usually really get to me but in this instance - If the memorial means anything to the Council, it should mean enough to put ALL those involved on to it. If this means a little more expense - 'so be it' - . Surely there could be something added, even if not in 'bronze' ??????? Perhaps a 'little article' in the local paper would be in order? Dea x |

Nothing to do with his memorial but look him up on the Commonwealth War Graves website www.cwgc.org you will see where he is buried and with luck get details of next of kin. Good Luck Jack |

i go to Leigh a bit and have seen several war memorials around the area, he may be on one around the outskirts, rather than in the town |

Contact the local Royal British Legion, they might be able to help. |

I would contact the local council as they are usually responsible for the maintenance and would be able to advise you on who you would need to contact Roy |

Do you know that he enlisted from Leigh? I just wondered if he enlisted elsewhere might he be on the ''wrong'' memorial. Lots of people never got included and I think there were a number of reasons. I'm not sure who instigated the memorial lists?? (I mean those on small memorials in towns and villages). I do know that many people are on memorials but had not died! I know my g-grandfather was asked about his son's name going on the local (small village) memorial, but he declined. (Father was a committed pacifist) I don't know whether anything can be done about your missing name. Maybe contact the local council?? Merry |
