Just had an email from Robin the editor of Norfolk Roots - Id told him about the Sir John Boileau mausoleum being restored at our local church and how Sir John had such an interesting life, may be Norfolk Roots would like to do a story on him. Just had a mail back and he says he will look into it but have we any interesting stories about Norfolk ag labs as they are working on agricultural history of Norfolk for the mag at present. Well guys? |

Kat, only just got my Norfolk Roots this morning, but I think they have pubs in there this issue. If anyone fancies doing an article about their discoveries re their ag labs, it would be nice to read it knowing it was 'one of us'. |

Its the one just published July/August - theres lot of interesting stuff in there (as always, I have to say) but they have a few pages on Licensees in the family with pubs in Norwich. I havent even read it yet - supposed to be working here. My ancestor had The Wildman and The Riflemans pubs in Norwich - same bloke one after another. He was also a journeyman carpenter.. Which pub did your lot have? They also mention that George Plunkett recorded many pubs in Norwich and the site is www.*the-plunketts*freeserve.*co*uk/ I guess you know the wonderful www*norfolkpubs*co*uk site? |

My Norfolk ag lab great uncles all fled to London in search of better prospects. Four of them joined the Met Police and one the City of London police. My grandfather was too small to join either, and ended up running a picture frame shop in Stoke Newington Church Street, where my dad was born. The only claim to fame they have is that grandfather Jeuel once shook hands with the writer Rider Haggard. nell |
