Just checked, and the £10 charge is if you don't have the GRO reference. If you do have the relevant reference, certs are (still) £7 each. Mandy :)

I would have checked - I ordered one for £7 last week - but the trip wire has gone again - hes in bath now. Hope it isnt so though, a tenner sounds a lot more than £7 somehow. Oh thank gawd Nell, so its still at the usual 'free' price then. I wonder when all these husbands will catch on?

Irene I almost always give a checking point, but have never been charged £10! This is from the GRO online automated ordering service. The only time I have ever been charged £10, was when I asked for two certs, one to be checked against the other. I received the correct one for £7 and £3 was for the 'wrong' cert which they did not provide. OC

Hi all, I ordered 2 death certificates on the 16 June from Southport and was charged £17. They took a week to arrive. I ordered a birth 3 days ago and was charged £8.50, have I been riped off? Cheryl

I usually ask for say, fathers name to be checked and Ive only paid £7. Did you tick the box that asks if you have the GRO reference?

Always ordered over the phone with GRO ref and not asked for any checks Cheryl

Cheryl Ah well, that's why you are charged 8.50 - its only the automated service which is £7. Funny that - because if you ring/write/email/call in to a LOCAL RO - they only charge you £7 anyway! OC

Thanks for the info. I will make sure I don't pay over the odds for my next certificate. Cheryl
