Hi Judith thank u so much for trying to help me xxxx Yep got Nannas 1st marriage certificate (as she married my grandad so that interested me lol) No fathers name given scream grr :( tho it does say Nanna was 18 at the time of marriage. Im thinking send off for the other marriage certificates but something is telling me her dads name wont be on any of them either :( ive sent for 5 certs altogether (in last month) and touch wood yippee they have all been 100% correct. But that still doesnt solve Nanna's mysetry oh well Angie xxxxxxxx

With marriages in theory you should get: Miss A marrying Mr B indexed as A marrying B and B marrying A. When Mr B dies, Mrs B remarries so: Mrs B marries Mr C (on the certificate it should say Mrs B formaly A) indexed as A marrying C, B marrying C and C marrying A or B When Mr C dies, Mrs C remarries so: Mrs C marries Mr D (on the certificate it should say Mrs C late B formaly A) indexed as A marrying D, B marrying D, C marrying D and D marrying A or B or C in reality it doesnt always happen. Some times only the name being used at the subsiquent marriages are give, some time 1 former name is give aswell and if your very lucky you get the full list. My great grand mother remarried in her late 60's and only gave her married name - I had to check with my father who she had married to confirm it was her.

Angela, you say you don't know either of her parents names. As she married three times you would be best served to buy one of her marriage certificates where she should have given her father's name and occupation. Hopefully the certificate will also have her age which will help to narrow down the search.Update, have just noticed you refer to the name on her marriage certificate so guess you already have it. What name is given for her father and what age does it give for her?

strike my last statement about only 2 Dodd families just looked on the 1901 census for Nottingham and theres a bloody load of em eek lol (don't think theyre all related) lol damn this is getting harder I need her dads name or even her mums or nannas birth certificate flipping families lol

Hi Anne Thats the prob I have no idea where she may have come from, I dont know either of her parents names (not even my cousins do and they grew up with her she never spoke about her family and none of them ever met any of them) I did find this in the 1929-1930 electrol fiche James Albert Dodd Annie Dodd Living at 12 All Saints Terrace Nottingham Maybe they were her parents???????? Also on the 1901 census I found this 1901 census District Basford Nottingham 3143 folio 27 page but I couldn't flipping read it properly all I managed to make out was the following Eli Dodd Elizabeth Dodd but couldnt read any more so maybe theyre related? They are the only Dodd family in Nottingham during the same time scale that I know Nanna was here. Angie xxx

Thank u both for replying xxxxxxxxxxxxx First I went to the archives this afternoon in search of Nanna lol. I got the 1929-1930 electrol register fiche it only went upto Number 136 but on nannas marriage certificate it said she lived at 138 asking the archive staff member he said yes it does only look as though it goes upto 136!!!!!!!!! boohoo. Secondly yep thats the right marriage weird or wot hey!!!!!! flipping heck this is so hard but I love it lol (prob be boring if everything fell into my lap and didnt have to search for hours till I found what I was looking for) But why to both the above what was going on? cant figure this one out for the life of me. If both your nan's previous married names were in the register entry for her third marriage then it was normal to index it under both her surnames. What fiche have you searched for her address? The address would have been where she was living when she married so unlikely she would have been there in 1901. Could be that number 138 was uninhabited when the list you searched was drawn up, or the street was extended, or the houses remumbered.

Hi Everyone I think im going slowly mad here. On my dads birth certificate my Nanna's name is Ethel Frances Mabel Webb nee Dodd On her marriage certificate its Ethel Frances Mabel Dodd On grandads death certificate its Ethel frances Mabel Webb She remarried in 1946 and in the index was called Ethel Frances Mabel Webb married Colbert I found out from my new found coisins nanna married again Ive been in search of her new marriage found it in apr may jun 1969 But theres 2 entries the first one was Ethel Colbert the second entry was Ethel M F Webb why? (i know 100% its the same one as they both married the same man in the same place lol) still havnt found her birth :((((((((((((((( but have been to the archives today to have a look there and couldnt read the 1901 cencus boohoo. Also on Nanna's marriage certificate it gave an address where she was living but going through the fiche for that time scale in that street there was no number 138 it only went up to 136??????????? helppp why would it say a number that didnt exist?????????
