Louise, I had a similar problem with my great-grandmother and I finally found out what happened to her when I found an entry for her in the National Probate Calendar, which lists wills and estates which went to 'administration' (if there wasn't a will). My g-grandmother actually died in Ireland but administration of her estate was granted in England. Luckily for me, otherwise I would probably still be wondering! You can search the National Probate Calendar on microfiche and / or in bound volumes at some record offices and probate offices, though not all cover the full date range. Of course, if she did have a different surname when she died this will be no help! You would have to find the marriage first. Kate. |

Hello there, I wondered if anybody had any advice. I am trying to discover what happened to my Great Grandmother who lost contact with her family in 1918. Thanks to the OUTSTANDING help of some wonderful people here I now have some information to work from. Sarah Beatrice Evans born in Crewe 1891 mothers birth name was Collins still in Crewe in 1901 aged 10. married William Kirkpatrick in Ashton in 1912. spent time in Canada where second child was born at the end of 1914 and first child died in infancy. last seen in Crewe in 1918, when she left her husband and daughter, probably for another man. following some excellent advice I have searched for a death on another site, but after several hours couldnt find any matches. I suppose she could well have remarried, so would have a different surname. I really don't know what to do next, if there are any other ways of searching etc. Anyway ANY help appreciated, I will reply, but might take a little time, I am a Mum of 4 and it is nearly school pick-up time!
