Hi Elizabeth, Just for information, if the enumerator just puts one diagonal or horizontal line instead of two, then that usually means that it is a different family, but living in the same household. Kath. x

Thanks Kathleen, I'll remember that.

Where the enumerator puts two diagonal lines next to a name, that's supposed to be where one household starts and another ends. In this case the enumerator seems to have put the lines in slightly the wrong place, but I'm sure that there is only Luke and his parents in one household. Kath. x

Jess, It was just that a lot of people came up on the page with them.

Thanks for that. I've only had Ancestry for a week and trying to work it out. I saw the image but couldn't quite work out if it was houses or all in together.

They are not in an institution. Just houses in Providence Row. Would you like the image so you can see for yourself? Kath. x

Can someone look up 1841 census for Luke West born 1840. He is with his mother Ann and father, Luke. It is in Rotherhithe. I’m trying to work out if they are in some sort of institution or is it just that it hasn’t been divided into different houses. It is Folio 15 Page 22 Thanks.
