At least you know they only had 6 pages, whereas when I sent for one and they told be they had sent ten sheets out of a possible 12, I was consumed with frustration, wondering what was on the other two pages! tipstaff = a judge’s assistant who often oversees juries, organizes court matters, and assists the judge with other procedures. Hi Kat - well I thought I was getting the court case - that was the impression the N.A. gave with the title - its 1883 by the way, so well past withholding. To be honest I paid the £8.50 and just got basically the same info as the description of the doc gave - namely the sentence! So I guess my fault.

Hi Heather I had the same sought of thing with Asylum documents. This was due to 100 years closure, even tho the event and death was before then. I had all the admission, death etc etc but not the why, when and treatment bits. These documents were held in a bundle including some that hadn't yet reached the 100 year date. If you see what I mean. It could be that yours haven't been released yet. However, if you know where the documents are held, you can asked for them to be searched and the researcher can photocopy or record for you the details. You do need the reference nos tho. I found the one I wanted ie case notes, under the appropriate section for that INSTITUTION on A2A. So perhaps best to look for documents held by the institution rather than by name Kat :)

Glen, the military depot - ooo yes Glen, all those little soldiers you could do, eh? I wanted so much to hear all the dirty details of the case - I could imagine this Charles Dickens 'solicitor', creepy creepy, everso 'umble bloke and now I have nothing to mull over. Right, back to doing some cleaning - hubby getting a bit peed off with wading through filth.

Well the court case shown on the NA I spent £8.50 ordering (up to 10 pages). Today 6 attachments arrived in my email. First attachment was a picture of the book cover! The second was just the actual sentencing (what on earth was ancestor doing in both Southwark and Militiary Depot, Bodmin) my bloke and another one getting 3 months. 3rd just confirmation of sentence. 4th was just signature of the judge and tipstaffs(?) 5th was the Holloway prison governor querying what to do with these blokes as he wasnt used to white collar sentences. Next page they decide to treat them the same as prisoners sentenced for contempt of court and they are not to do hard labour. And thats it - no juicy details of why/what/how/when. How very disappointing
