Have just checked my tree in case something has gone awry and no - none of these mysterious people have attached themselves to it!!

Sorry - Got called away. Back now. The names that I got meant nothing to me at all. They have never been in my tree and have no connection to me!!! The only thing that I can think of is that they have been added to the tree of one of the (many!) people that has 'lifted' my tree after I gave access to it and somehow got connected with mine.

Jennifer, I do have a Mary Smith in my tree but my Hot Matches have never got past the letter D yet, so no matches for her yet! Kate.

You try having a Mary Smith in your tree!! To be fair though I have managed to trace some rellies on my more unusual names

Angela, I usually get a few imposters in there but they are always added on to names which do match ones in my tree (although unfortunately all I get is Browns born all over the world). So for example I might get an entry that says there is 1 match with, say, Fred's tree, but when I click on Fred a list of 2 matches comes up: Mary Brown and Ernest Hodge. Then I spend a little while looking at my tree to see who Ernest Hodge is before the penny drops - he isn't in my tree in the first place! My latest batch of Hot Matches have been the worst ever, though, all Browns and none born anywhere near any of mine. Kate.

I can't complain about hot matches, they have been good to me, i have had 7 or eight genuine matches one of which has taken one branch of my tree back to the 16th century with an Australian link i didn't know about. Ann Glos

I have Robert Hamilton too. My guy is from Glasgow, born c1835 -- is he yours?

I have got used to getting hot matches for names on my family tree that are born as far away as tasmania when mine are born in Norfolk but this time ihad some hot matches for names that arn't even on my tree. The only connection i could come up with is that Peeps sounds slightly like Heapes. I have never had a Peeps on my tree in he past. Also when i click on some one with one hot match often it comes up with 4 or more hot matches Caroline

That wouldn't by any chance be 'my' Robert Hamilton, Barbara? Lol.

I am always surprised at how many John Taylors and Robert Hamiltons there are in the world, Barbara..xx

Once or twice I've had ''matches'' that don't appear anywhere in my tree. Do they know something I don't? I've also had messages from people asking about names I don't have, (and never had), so I presume GR's brilliant systems get themselves in knots sometimes

And as I seem to have completely ignored your Q, Angela!!..... No, I haven't had that happen, but GR don't seem to work the same way for everyone's hot matches!! It couldn't be that these ''strangers'' are names that you have had on your tree in the past, but have since deleted?? Merry

I was pretty surprised to get 15 hot matches with my 1st cousin, who, just one year ago, told me family history was a waste of time. I was even more surprised to see he has about 3,000 people on his tree, which is more than I have, and I've been plodding on for about 12 years or so!!! I sent him a message last night - It will be interesting to see what he has to say!!! (I did wonder if I'm going to find he got the info on our mutual branch from another family member, who in turn got theirs from me???? lol).....Maybe I could ask him....''I really struggled with finding Samuel's marriage.....How did you find it?'' lol!!!! I don't think many of us have names we haven't heard of but most of us think they are worth much. You go thru pages of matches for one or two possibilities. I've yet to find a match with hot matches. Toni

Just looked at my latest batch of Hot Matches. Whoever the rellies were that were supposed to be 'Matches', they certainly were not mine!!! None of the names meant anything to me at all. Has anyone else had this?
