Its quite a long way off Elizabeth, I can't think what he would be doing down there. Thanks alot for your time. I think I'll have to go up and scout round the graveyards, it's going to maybe be the only way. (wellington and waterproof time) Thanks again Jean |

Jean, Found the Manchester one, but also found 1855 Q1 Blackburn, Lancashire. I'm in Australia and don't have much idea of where that is. |

My 2 x GGF never went further than the pub at the end of the road in the whole of his life - Ardwick, Manchester. We could not find his death, despite looking for five years. Because, for reasons still unknown to us, he died 60 miles away! OC |

Jean, Can you tell me exactly what you have. The only John Fothergill I can find from Esthwaite Hall on the 1851 is only 10. There was an older John as well but different birthplace. Just need to check census to see what I'm looking for. Have you got him in 1841? |

Was it the sort of family to travel? He could have been visiting and died. My husband's lot travelled from one end of England to the other from 1700s on. Just seemed to up and go. Lived in Bristol, up to Yorkshire to marry, back to Bristol for first bub. Family went as well. Hawkshead was a favourite as well. The grandmother lived there. |

In 1851 John Fothergill is living at Esthwaite Hall, Hawkshead, Lancashire with his wife Ann. In 1861 Ann is a widow but I can't find a death between 1851 and 1861 in Lancashire. (only Manchester which is too far away) There are several in east and west wards westmorland where he was born but because there is no birth date it could be any. Would he go back to where he was born to die? |
