Oh good at least mine aren't the only ones. Nell, I'm on the case with Alfred's family and have managed to find his grandparents - no link yet but who knows. Thanks for all your comments. Helen

Don't worry Helen, it was common then. My husbands family married their cousins several times, he says he's amazed he's not got 6 legs. As long as its not brother/sister etc, its legal lol! (No offence Dianne! Just read your post.) Was that allowed to happen, Fuzzy?

I've got Bavins marrying Bavins - yes they were related. Davies marrying Davies - no they weren't. Griffiths marrying Griffiths - no they weren't, although more research will probably prove they were. And another Griffiths marrying Griffiths - yes they were.

You think you've got problems!! I'm 99.9% certain that I have a brother and sister unwittingly marrying each other. I'm hoping against hope that I'm wrong, but after going round and round in circles for a few years now, I keep coming back to the same conclusion. Where's me headache pills?? Dianne xx

I've got George Worboys marrying Sarah Warboys in Hertfordshire in 1846. I haven't got far enough back yet to find the connection, but I'm sure it's there.

You can use the census to trace Alfred back and find him with his family and hopefully that will tell you if they are connected or not. nell

I think we've all found cousins who married. Most times they didn't have the same surname but sometimes they did. Rose

I have had a worrying incidence of same surname marriages cropping up today. On 21 Jun 1853 William Burgoyne married Elizabeth Burgoyne. They originated in villages 25 miles apart so probably nothing too strange in that. Then in 1885 one of their daughters Elizabeth Burgoyne married an Alfred Burgoyne. This time they originated in villages only about 10 miles apart. I know that in 1881 Hereford had the highest number of Burgoynes in the country but I have a horrible feeling that I am sure to find a connection between these families. Has this happened to anyone else?
