Wonder where the name Alonzo originates?

Angela Alonzo and Alonso are both Spanish names although they might also be Italian like Heather said. When written with an 's' it is usually a forename but with a 'z' it is more usual as a surname. If he had Spanish ancestors you should know that all Spanish and south americans have double surnames. Women do not change their name on marriage and the children automatically have the surname of their father and their mother (in that order). The surname that almost everyone uses in day to day life is their father's surname, i.e.their next to last name. this becomes confusing when you move to a non spanish country, people start to use your last name which is actually your mother's maiden name and not the one you have been using previously. It sounds confusing and it is. I live in Chile and only have one surname. Because of this I frequently find that businesses, banks etc try to put my second christian name as my surname. It takes a lot of explanation and it's possible that this could explain why he swopped his names around. I hope this helps. best wishes Ashley

I think their are some beautiful unusual names in our ancestors. (seen a lot the amount of hours spent searching the BMD's) My great grandad was named Alonzo Walter Binch. I wonder where the name Alonzo comes from? (sound quite exotic to me lol) Although he later swapped his first and middle name around then dropped the Alonzo altogether :( ( flipping confusing when ya trying to trace ya ancestors lol) I love the name Angie xxx
