Well, DON'T know what it is, but it is definitely to do with 'weaving' The following info mught help you trace it: Damask: Originally a rich silk fabric with woven floral designs made in China and introduced into Europe through Damascus, from which it derived its name. Now a broad group of jackquard-woven fabrics with elaborate floral or geometric patterns, made of linen, cotton, wool, worsted, silk, rayon, acetate and other manufactured fibers, and combinations of these fibers. The pattern is distinquished from the ground by contrasting luster and is reverible. In two-color damask, the colors reverse on either side. The fabric is similar to brocade but flatter. Single damask is made with a five-harness satin weave; the TRUE (DOUBLE) DAMASK is woven with an eight-harness satin weave and has a firm hand... Dea x |

You set me off looking for textile definitions!! LOL I found this Harness - part of the loom that holds the leashes. They are raised and lowered to create the weave pattern its from this sitehttp://www.whitchurchsilkmill.org.uk/schools/glossary.htm Ann x |

Marion, Looks like you are getting there - Sorry I didn't have time to look further but have decided I need to 'help myself' and get rid of MY pile of paperwork before I help anyone else (can't resist a little help here and there though). I have been doing it ALL day and the pile is getting bigger, not smaller. - Hey Ho !!!!!!!!! Hope you sort it. Dea x |
