I live in Westcliff-on-Sea, whose library is funded by it's council and not Essex County Council. Please correct me if I'm wrong ;) Which may mean I might not have access to this. I'll pop into my local library which is at the top of my road to see if this is the case :) Clare |

Had an afterthought! What, if like me, you want to save a copy of a census - I wonder if the Libraries will allow us to print a copy so it can be scanned into home PC - or once you have a reference does anyone know if we can 'order' a copy census from anywhere - although I'm setting my 'families' up on FTM 06 I like to keep a copy of the census for reference. It will be great to know we can search other sections of families on the census side without having to pay for further subscription. |

Hi Gwen I was about to add a thread saying the same thing! I picked up a leaflet about it in my library this morning - the leaflet also listed some other useful websites, including this one of course. I can see where my summer holiday will be spent now. Kate |

Sounds good! Wish I was in Essex - would save me some money!! It might be an idea to pop this on the general board aswell as some people may not pop on to tips to see this. |

I have just read my local magazine issued by Essex Council here is what they say. If you wish to research your family history Essex Libraries have signed up to a subscription for the hugely popular Ancestry .com website so you can use it free of charge. The Census from 1841 - 1901, the whole of England birth, death and marriage indexes from 1837 for England and Wales. It says check opening times for you local libraries on 0845 603 7628 or www.essexcc.gov.uk/libraries. I thought all the peeps in Essex might like to know about this service. Gwen |
