I second that Heather. Any reference to my lot on the railways excluding the Clerks and checkers doesn't name the railway company, but they usually migrate down to Acton and the surrounding areas, leaving the wife and youngest kids in Norfolk, usually in the 91 and 1901 Glen |

There is a rootsweb forum for railway workers. Have a google for it. I find rootsweb such a brill site but navigating it is a bit like trying to rob Fort Knox Im afraid. |

General overview of railway records on The National Archives website: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/rdleaflet.asp?sLeafletURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Enationalarchives%2Egov%2Euk%2Fcatalogue%2Fleaflets%2Fri2189%2Ehtm&lBack=-1 which states: 'It should be noted that the bulk of the men who worked on the construction of railways, the Navvies, were casual employees and very few records survive concerning their service. ' You could also google 'Midlands railway'. |

Hi, im trying to trace my gg grandfather who regularly changed his name. On his marriage cert dated 1900 he is a railway plate layer, and on his daughters birth cert in 1898 im pretty sure it says Labourer Mids Ry. He's not at home in 1901 so im presuming he lived near where he worked. Is there any official site that i might be able to find more on, or possibly do they keep workers records? Many thanks |
