Can anyone tell me how I trace people born in the Netherlands? My Gt,Gt,Gt Grandfather Cornelius de Fries was from Groningen I believe. But now I am stuck. Family myth has it someone at some point was the burgermaster or mayor (excuse my spelling, but I think you'll get what I mean.) i am new to this site and to tracing my tree, so any help is appreciated as I was having great fun with this. Brenda. Thanks Every-one, You have given me more info in five minutes than I have been able to find in two weeks. I just joined today and its worth the tenner already. Ta very much again. Bren |

The following is the official dutch website for records. www*genlias*nl (replace the* with a . ) You can get a version that is in English and it is really easy to use with lots of information, and you are able to order online. Helen |

The genlias and geneaknowhow sites mentioned by Helen and Kate are both good. For the geneaknowhow site - just click on 'internet' under Groningen in the column on the left for a list of links to Groningen records. Most of these will be in Dutch though. If you find something that looks promising and need help deciphering/translating let me know. There is also a De Vries genealogy forum (De Vries is the usual Dutch spelling) at: http://genforum(.)genealogy(.)com/devries/ (delete parentheses) Here is another site with links to more Dutch genealogy resources/forums: http://www(.)godutch(.)com/genealogy/basics/ch25.asp |
