Good morning everyone. I have lost a relative after 1841. He appears in Farringdon Berks HO107/18/2 folio 19 page 32. age 40. He is with Sarah& David Walker and family. Richard Whiteway mistranscribed as Whitenack. I THINK Sarah is his daughter, she was Whiteway before marriage. He never appears again on censuses. I have looked for deaths from 1841 to 1851 on all indexes including 1837 online. How do I look to see if he was in prison, hospital, emigrated etc. He is not the Rich. Whiteway b.1796 who appears with wife Martha. He is not Sarah`s brother Rich,Whiteway b.1822-He is in Chatham Barracks. Any help with this search much appreciated. Sylvia.

If he is in prison/hospital etc he should still appear on the census. Sometimes prisoners/patients/inmates etc were just recorded by their initials, age and birthplace, but usually they weren't. If he emigrated, you would need to have an idea of where to - not all records survive and I don't think ships' passengers' lists are indexed. nell

Sorry I've looked at Whit*, Wite* and Wight* and all Richards b. within 5 years of 1800 in Berks - nothing!

Many thanks for your help, Nell. I have trawled through all of Berks and Wilts workhouse records. found nothing. Also nothing on A2A for Berks. record office. I guess this will have to go in the 'unsolved mystery file' Thanks again, Sylvia.

Thanks Gillian, but that is the Rich. Whiteway who appears on 1841 with wife Martha. Sylvia.
