I work in Richmond and was able to contribute an article for our company newsletter about the history of our building. With the help of the Local Studies Centre I was even able to include a 1913 picture of the building and then take my own photo from exactly the same position for comparison. As you can imagine it generated a lot of interest amongst my colleagues. |

Heather I have rellies from Richmond too - I thoroughly recommend a visit to the Richmond Local Studies Centre. I found I could trace my lot through the annual street directories. They have a complete run of electoral rolls etc. and very helpfully found on the map where Vestry Cottage might have been so I could go and look round the area. nell |

Here's an excellent site - an index to named individuals in the Surrey Advertiser. If your rellie got themselves in the news, or even placed an advertisement, you may find it here. Areas recorded include: Guildford, Petersfield, Kingston, Woking, Horsham, Brighton, Chichester, London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, France, America, Italy, New Zealand, Australia and many more. As much detail as possible has been listed, Births, Marriages, Deaths, Bankruptcy, Criminal Proceedings, Trades and Professions, Auctions, Sales of Houses and Articles, Public Notices, Advertisements, Local News, Foreign News, Meetings and Parish News. http://www.newspaperdetectives(.)co(.)uk/ .............[remove brackets] |
