Looks like they didn't bother getting married before the children arrived, I can't find any matching entries on Ancestry Beta 1871-1875. |

Thanks for your ideas Kath and Tracy. I'm stuck with Elizabeth at the moment as I haven't yet traced her marriage to William Clare. He's on 1871 as unmarried so Elizabeth should be single too. I got her maiden name from daughter's birth cert. in 1875. I'll have to have another look at Ancestry Beta and wait to get the cert. through. |

Looking at the image it says both girls are unmarried though so wouldn't they have the same surname? My Uncle is 50 and my eldest Aunty 80 so it is possible I suppose. Tracyx Could be visitor going for another look |

I think perhaps the person giving the information was the daughter Annie. She could have given her mother's name as head of household, then her own name, then Elizabeth's name and said 'sister', meaning her (Annie's) sister. Annie and Elizabeth were the same age (26), - could they be twins? OR - having looked again, Annie and her mother are called O'Brien, and Elizabeth is Howard. Could the word 'sister', actually be 'visitor'? Kath. x |

RG10/4029 Registration district: Manchester Sub-registration district: Ancoats ED, institution, or vessel: 10 Folio: 34 Page: 28 I'm trying to track down my G G Gran Elizabeth Howard. In 1881 she is Elizabeth Clare living in Newcastle, born 1845 Manchester. I have found a possible Elizabeth in 1871 but am confused that at 26 she is living with her 'sister' aged 60????? Opinions please...................................................... |
