hiya, just thought i'd mention it, but on the dialogue box it does actually state that the free trial only has limited online searches, however i believe it is meant as a taster, so you can see the kind of things that it can help with Julie

Sadly I am not impressed with the Free Trial! Having carefully downloaded etc. I proceeded to search & after 5 searches (4 of which I had already looked at!) it told me I must buy the full product to view any more n-line searches! Shame, because in theory, it could have been very useful! Bridget

hiya'll Have installed FREE trial, and gave it a razz, it helps with all those searches you said you were going to do, (and promptly forgot). Basically it looks at whatever tree prog your working with, the gensmarts web page tell you which it supports, it scans every entry in all the tree and then brings up a to do list, which you can select either, that you have the information, intend to look for it, ignore it for time being, is a more simplifed way of searching if you already have the info, and it will link you to online sites to help you search. there is an online forum, and the FAQ's seem to be useful, however this is based at the US but you can use forums to ask them to put in UK search sites which you find useful, and they will put them in, When you have d'loaded the free trial, is remains that, free, for ever, you dont have to purchase the key for the upgrade, u can just use the basic features, just if you do purchase the key, it will allow you more access to other features, and you will get free-updates to accompany your gensmarts programme. I shall keep this on my machine, and run it, you never know it may help with my long lost rellies, www.gensmarts*com Julie

Hi Julie - Actually, I hadn't heard of it before (or if I did I'd forgotten about it). Just Googled it, though, and I must say it looks interesting. There seem to be lots of reviews online and the company Web site has a user's forum, so this should give you a fairly good idea of how well it works. For those who reading this thread no no idea what it's all about, Gensmarts is an add-on program that works with your regular genealogy software (e.g., Family Tree Maker, PAF, The Master Genealogist, Legacy, Ancestral Quest, etc...). It analyzes your tree, recommends what further research you should do, and then connects you to available online databases (free as well as pay sites). Since no one else here seems to be using it, Julie, perhaps you'll be kind enough to post a review ... think of it like a weekend school assignment! :-) Have fun - Tim
