Yes, thats one thing I said to him Frances. I said you can hardly pick up, flick through making notes or sit in front of the fire with a pc. I mentioned that people spend hours picking up and putting down a mag and dont want to travel to a centre to sit for hours with eyes blurring and back aching looking at the pages on a monitor. |

Just had another thought. If people who don`t have a computer are supposed to visit an internet cafe or similar, just think how long it will take to read through 150 pages! Frances |

I`m sulking cos I didn`t get a reply - lol!! Have to say I still think it is a bad move and although I can see the benefits for some there will still be a lot of people who will not be able to enjoy reading the printed version. Thanks for sharing Robins reply Heather. Frances |

When you say you have not received this month's issue do you mean issue 12 for July/August 2006? If so then this is still on its way as it was only published yesterday (22 June). If you received issue 11 (May/June 2006, then we did highlight the move to the digital edition in that magazine. The change has been made because of a need to develop the magazine and provide even more information to our readers (the digital version will contain at least 150 pages each issue in comparison to the present 76). It is not possible to expand our printed edition in this way. Although it would be ideal to have a digital and print edition running simultaneously this is not economically possible. Also the only people who see it on shop shelves are those within Norfolk itself, whereas the digital edition allows more people to access it (and find out about it on the internet) worldwide. I am aware that there are people who read the magazine and do not have computer access (although such access is more and more available to people who do not own computers via internet cafes and other public access areas) and it is regrettable for their sake that the print edition has to end. These days, however, a great majority of family history researchers, and a large proportion of our existing readers, use computers and more and more original source material is online and more is appearing online every day. With regard to subscriptions all existing subscribers will be receiving a letter or e-mail before the next edition in which their options will be outlined. The value of outstanding issues on an annual subscription can be refunded. At that point if they wish to continue subscribing they can access the digital edition and either purchase single issues online or take out an annual subscription. The annual subscription means that as long as they remain a subscriber they will be able to access all editions online. Added to this, over the next 12 to 18 months we will be putting our back editions on the site as well. For those who do not wish to pay by online methods we are sorting out alternative payment methods. Although a number of readers have expressed regret that the print edition will cease after the current edition just published, most of them have said they will continue to subscribe as they find the contents of the magazine (which will look the same online except it will contain more information) so worthwhile.
