Someone asked me to look for the marriage of this guy to an Ann - well I think Ive found it in Norwich 1845 - but they told me he is in Bethnal Green in 1861 shown born Norwich. I just went to check up on the kids ages on ancestry - Im blowed if I can see him in Bethnal Green in 1861 - can anyone? Dont spend a lot of time, but just in case Im having one of my ever increasing senior 'cant see the wood for the trees' moments. I dont know anything re age but he should have a daughter aged about 11 called Anna born Norwich. Thanks

I looked on the 1837online index instead of Ancestry! Batson in Bethnal Green turns up: BATSON, Ann 38 F Bethnal Green BATSON, Charles 7 M Bethnal Green BATSON, James 3 M Bethnal Green BATSON, James 40 M Bethnal Green BATSON, John 1 M Bethnal Green BATSON, Maria 10 F Bethnal Green BATSON, William 12 M Bethnal Green THEN I could find them! Ann Balson abt 1823 N, Norwich Wife Bethnal Green Middlesex Charles Balson abt 1854 N, Norwich Son Bethnal Green Middlesex James Balson abt 1821 N, Norwich Head Bethnal Green Middlesex James Balson abt 1858 N, Norwich Son Bethnal Green Middlesex John Balson abt 1860 N, Norwich Son Bethnal Green Middlesex Maria Balson abt 1851 N, Norwich Daughter Bethnal Green Middlesex William Balson abt 1849 N, Norwich Son Bethnal Green Middlesex Merry

Suppose Maria aged 10 may have begun life as Anna Maria? Didn't want to confuse her with her mum, maybe? Merry

Gold medal again Merry - it does make me wonder just how much I am missing on ancestry - I shall have to have another go looking for the Horsteads in Wapping in 1841. What I cant understand is how this other person found him as Batson -(I didnt even look for a mistrans - an obvious one like t and l because she had no doubts - Im sure she said she used ancestry, but perhaps she didnt and I am realising more and more that as peeps like Kate and Old Crone have said in the past, ancestry isnt the absolute bees knees I always believed. Ive now, using Balson instead of Batson found them in 1851 and 1841 still in Norwich and tying in nicely with the info this lady had.

Heather, I've got plenty of time so I don't mind looking for your Horsteads. I'm just new at Ancestry, but I'll look. There are over 3000 Hubands on the IGI, but did I give up? NO. Did find Oswells were Horswils though. Let me know what you are after. Email me direct if you want. Libby
