Thanks for that Steve. The first entry can't be her because Baron wasn't born until the 25th April that year. If it was Ada in Aldershot I can't imagine what she would have been doing there. Any suggestions how I should proceed with my enquiries? A BIG thanks to everyone! |

Thanks Reggie, I take it that Riversdale was in Meesden? JeSS, thanks for the birth registration details. Neither Ada or any of her 11 siblings appear to have been given 2nd names. Other branches of the family did, but not this lot. I have no idea where MOORE comes from. I had hoped that it would have given some clue to the father's identity, but if it is true that Ada died in childbirth then it's unlikely that she would have had a say in naming him. Thank you both for our help. Regards Lyndsey |

Could some kind person please look up Ada Freeman on the 1901 census. She was born in 1884 in Meesden in Hertfordshire. In 1903 she bore an illegitimate son in St. Albans Workhouse, who was named Baron Moore (Freeman). On his birth certificate she is described as a Cook/Domestic Servant, so it's my guess she was 'taken advantage of'. It has been said that she died in childbirth but I've not been able to find her death registered. I'm not sure if she was in service in St. Albans or just sent there 'out of the way' to have her baby. Many thanks Lyndsey |
