Thank you Tim, geography never was my stong point. My grandfathers parents and siblings emigrated to Canada about 1913. I have found one of the sisters on a passenger list and she went to Quebec but ended up in Cobourg Havent found when the rest of the family went yet, but I live in hope. |

Birth, marriage and death registration is the responsibilty of each provincial government, and each province has its own rules. If this was England, it would be as if each county had separate policies and regulations for certificates. It doesn't always make much sense, but each level of government is very jealous about protecting its own jurisdiction. BTW, Winnipeg is the capital city of Manitoba; Ontario is a province, whose capital is Toronto. Ottawa (where I live) is the national capital, which is also in Ontario (but just across the river from Quebec - a province whose capital is Quebec City). All clear now? Tim |

Pity it is Winnipeg and not Ontario as there are actual marriage images albeit only up until 1922. I have found 4 of my grandfathers sisters marriages on there. Good luck |

Hi Ted. Actually, I'm Canadian and have done very little research here. I was able to search Ancestry, with the help of a friend's subscription, but didn't see her anywhere. Are you fairly certain she arrived in 1886? Perhaps someone else might have some suggestions for you. |

lisa, I think it could be true, they have a 100 year rule on marriage certs anyway, and a 70 year rule of death, so they make it very difficult to get any info. I see that you come from CALIFORNIA. Can you tell me how or where I can get some info about an aunt who emigrated to USA in 1886 when she was 20 years old, and unmarried. name FANNY HEWITT born LPOOL 1866 and arrived in NEW YORK in 1886 on a ship from LIVERPOOL the 'INDIA' I tried a researcher from the LDS who wanted $1690 to trace what her, but couldnt give a guarantee that they would find her. I was hoping to be able to find out if she married and when, and where she lived. but not at those prices. she was after all only a great aunt. TED XXXX |

Ted, if you've tried to find IGI's in Canada I'm sure you've noticed that there aren't too many. I was told, don't know that it's true, but I was told that Canada wants to protect the privacy of Canadians and will not allow information to be given to the LDS church. Once again, I don't know that it is true, but very, very few of my relatives/ancestors can be found on the LDS site. |

hi all. Ive been trying to get a marr cert for my uncle Robert Lunts, wife, GEORGINA WHITTON, whom he married in 1919. then when he died in 1930 she remarried to a EDWARD McKINNON. I have applied to WINNIPEG for a copy of the cert, but the rules regarding marr certs are pretty strict, ive no idea why. you have to be an authorised next of kin, or a son or daughter if both the parents are deceased. As Im not a blood relative of GEORGINA I cant apply for a cert, even though Im the only living relative of ROBERT and GEORGINA., as faras I know. She never had any childen. . I have the marriage cert for ROBERT and GEORGINA but I wanted the marr cert for GEORGINA AND EDWARD, after all she was my aunt. Strange isnt it? They will provide me with a death cert for her when she died in 1938 without any problems, but not a marr cert. Its a good jobn they dont have those rules here in UK otherwise we would be in a real mess. TED. |
