Thanks Merry I must nearly qualify for squatter's rights at HRO in Winchester. I've trawled Beaulieu PRs, - many times on fiche, in the hope that 'perhaps I missed it last time'. I've checked page numbers on fiche to make sure they copied all of the register. I checked surrounding parishes of Boldre, Lymington, Eling and Fawley. Also checked card index and some parishes in Isle of Wight R.O. as the surname was common there. Someone online kindly checked Henry Comyn's book but my lot weren't named. I have a suspected set of parents, - with a convenient gap for a possible baptism of Henry amidst their other children. The father was a blacksmith ( as was Henry later) How far would he travel from home carrying all that kit?? lol Gwyn

Gwyn, Beaulieu 1813................ Hubby has dozens of rellies from Beaulieu at that date. Baptisms were at Beaulieu and at Boldre. There was also a strong Baptist influence (though it would be right at the very beginning in 1813)......which tends to mess up the C of E continuity!! Hubbys' relatives seem to have baptised one child in two! Have you investigated Henry Comyn's book (he was the vicar and wrote about the inhabitants of Beaulieu (named!) etc around 1812-1817).....book is out of print....Comyn's New Forest, edited by Jude James. UPDATE - First independent Chapel set up in 1803 (no denomination recorded). Second one was Baptist in 1812. Both these were in Boldre Parish, close to the border with Beaulieu. Merry

Hubby's Ariels nicked up to Yorkshire from Bristol to marry. Back in time for 1st baby. When they got out here in the 1850s, they went from Melbourne to Rockhampton regularly. That's about 2000kms.

Oh that gives me hope. Plymouth to Malta suggests a military link so I can understand that, ...possibly the same reason for Christine's geographical gap too. My son was born Cyprus and christened in Winchester. ........ Now where would someone born Beaulieu be christened?? Any suggestions c.1813 ? Gwyn

The one baptised in Malta shows up on the Malta Family History site, along with his siblings who were born there (dad was in the Navy). I had assumed he was born there too. It was only when I saw him on the 1841 census today, presumably getting ready to leave the country, (!) that I realised he was born here and checked for a birth registration. The Northumberland to Cambridgeshire one was brought to his grandparents home parish. lol Christine!! Merry

I was born in Aden and Baptised in Southsea. But transport options were a bit faster than C19 and C18 - even when I was young!! ;-) Christine

One of my rellies was born in Northumberland, but baptised, soon after, in Cambridgeshire. I thought that was a long way to travel in the 1860's...........but............I can beat that now!! Rellie born in 1841 in Plymouth and baptised in 1842 in Malta! lol.....Merry x
