Which would be better,using the LMA staff to search (over £30 per hour) or buy the Middlesex Disc,seeing as i don't know how many generations i will need i suppose it's the disc? Glen

Glen If you don't know the parish, its going to be very costly paying for a researcher. If you DO have parish names, perhaps you can order the microfilms at your nearest LDS centre? nell

No, it's not! The disc is likely to have very little on it and certainly not what you want. What do you want looked up, Glen? I've already got a list, but can add a specific request to it. NB just about to head home, so may not answer for a little while.

Glen, what areas are you looking at? Dont forget Dockland Ancestors have baptisms for various Middx parishes and you can just enter a surname and bring the lot up for £1.95 at the moment.

I'm trying to confirm the details for my 2 x g g/f. The details i have are George Hay (yep my coastguard again) dob 30/01/1810 St James Clerkenwell From his wedding cert 1839 (Leicestershire) his father is also called George Hay.No occupation or statement as to whether living or deceased. I'm trying to confirm the details are correct re his birth and also trying to find any details for his parents He travelled around the country with his job and i haven't been able to place him with either parents or any siblings in the census. If the marriage cert is correct re his father the only thing it tells me is that George snr is likely to be pre 1794 birth. Glen

Do you have access to Ancestry - if so there is someone researching the same name on the Ancestry World Trees (George Hay coastguard), If you don´t have access then send me a pm and I´ll send the details on to you.

Should also add baptism is allegedly 18/02/1810 St James,Clerkenwell. The details are in another tree (and tree owner is a direct descendant) but has much more info for less direct lines going back four or five generations further. Glen

Hi Elaine The tree you mention is by the same tree owner as on here,we do differ with some of the children (dates of birth and deaths etc) through his various marriages (i know some of the other tree are different to what my certs say and i have some of the local parish records too). Rumour is that another few generations back brings the family back towards Scotland and a marriage into the 'lower classes' at the cost of a title,but i can't assume that without the missing generations. Well his residence is put down as Yarmouth!The things we do for love eh? The Yarmouth details do match with the 41 census though,and Suffolk is now known to be his first area with the coastguard.(Thanks to Phoenix and her sleuthing at Kew for me) Glen
