I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the poem your after but try this site; http://quartet.cs.unb.ca/tapor/cgi-bin/view-works.cgi?c=scottjoh.1168&pos=1 You'll need to scroll down a bit to where it has pg 85 or the number 378. I'm not sure if that is part of the poem your after, but further down there is a reference to Emma's Well after number 402. It's about a 1/4 down the page. Gypsyjoe

SF You could try contacting your nearest big reference library and asking them to look it up in Granger's 'Index to Poetry.' Might not be there, but worth a try - or they might have something similar they could use. They would probably do it by phone or email. Roger

Amwell is not a million miles from here, but I am afraid I can't get there at the moment as I am a tad overstretched!!! If you don't get any joy, send me a PM later in the summer and I will see what I can do.

google Scott of Amwell. There is loads of stuff on him and the poem may be amongst it.

I am looking for a poem called 'emma' it was written by John Scott (1730 -1783 ). He was from Amwell in Herts. Amwell is named after Emmaswell. Apparently this emma fell and died in the well. John Scott wrote a poem for her and it is inscribed on a stone at the well itself. I have searched all over and can not find the poem, has anyone got any ideas where else I can try without going there, its a tad of a long drive for me lol
