Slybi but according to an Aunt they use to call him Pat ! He was born between 1901 -15 and was a sailor, his father was Irish and mother Irish desent as well....Anyone any ideas, I was thinking maybe it was a nick name ? Its pronouce Selbe

Not sure where he was born could be Liverpool,Ashton, or Stockport his surname was Dempsey...Mothers maiden name Sparks.. Fathers name Michael Dempsey he also had a brother Michael...

St. Sylvester's day is 1st January as Germans call New year's eve Silvesternacht. The Sylvester in my family has taken his mother's surname but maybe if yours was an Irish catholic family it would be his saints day.
