mill accidents

are there any records of cotton mill accidents my great aunt had her arm amputated after being caught in the machinery this would be about 1924 in Bolton

I don't know if there would have been an 'accident' book at the Mill, as this was pre- the Health & Safety at Work Act. Horrible though it sounds, industrial accidents were part of life back then, no idea about compensation etc. You could google the name of the Mill if you know it, or contact the relevant records office. nell

Might be worth trying to get a peep at the local paper for the time.The library in the area may have copies and be able to supply a photocopy if the accident was reported in the local paper. Glen
