If you have the free version of AVG, you will need a separarte firewall. The windows firewall does not check outbound traffic. F-Secure and Kaspesrsky get good reviews in some magazines. David

Thank you all for your comments :) I'm still in two minds, but I've had McAfee for 3 years, so I might just stick with that. The only thing that bugs me with it, is it couldn't verify on a PC (one I use) due to some ActiveX constraint. I've heard that McAfee is also power hungry, so maybe they both are. I have until the 24th to decide lol

I had McAfee and although I didn't get any viruses, it was a pain and seemed to conflict with everything! I now use Norton and I am advert free and get on with it much better. Only use Norton if you have a powerful PC or it could slow down a weak PC because Norton is very resource hungry but that wouldn't be noticable on a powerful and fast PC. Cheers, Horatia

Well I had Mcafee and was ok with it til i did one of their updates & it bu**erd my pc up & they couldnt explain why or rectify it. It cost £45 for a local pc repair expert to come in & delete all the wrong things it had done to my pc. I then bought from him at a discount rate Norton 2003,they used that it their shop & recommended it, and i have stuck with Norton ever since,I,ve just installed Norton 2006 & its just overwritten the previous files. I will stick with Norton as I feel it picks up most if not all probs.

AVG from Grisoft always gets good scores in the comparison tests in the computer mags, and it's free for home use. I dropped McAfee in favour of it. Never used Norton after a bad experience with one of their products a few years ago. Derek

Somehow I don't trust free downloads. When we first had our computer we had Norton and had no problems, however at the time of the annual renewal we upgraded to AOL Broadband and as they provided Mcafee Firewall we decided to opt for their anti virus aswell. We had nothing but problems with Mcafee and after a couple of months changed back to Norton - all trouble free since.

I'm happy with McAfee

Neither. Use avg from grisoft(.)com - it's FREE. Has worked superbly for me for years & updates itself and the virus definitions automatically every day.

My anti virus is due for renewal soon, so I would like to get the best replacement I can. What are your opinions?
