Much appreciated help. What a can of worms!! I bet your eyes were spinning. You are right, Ozibird. The Uley on the 1871 census does look like Isley. No wonder I couldn'f find them. if it is the same family, I wonder why the name change, could it be just an error. I started researching about 10 years ago, and gave it up as a lost cause. Way back then, I had found the birth registers, which were in Latin and I was told that the (olim) meant it was the maiden name or previous name. I have contacted Elaine spain, who had asked what the (olim) meant, but as yet she hasn't come back to me. Maybe someone else can verify the olim. I have now to go and try to match birth dates with my other records, some do seem to match the parish records. Oh! where to now!!!! Kind regards to all. Elaine.

Have just googled an online Latin translator olim = at that time, formerly, once, for a long time now. so in this case presume it means formerly (ie maiden name) Anyway - glad we have helped you and hope you don´t have too many headaches sorting out the change of name!!
