Found several ' odd ' ones about 30 years ago when researching a family; the one I liked best was ' Visitation from God ' |

Thanks Dizzy and Athena, yes they had some strange ways of saying things back then!! Athena, this death cert is the infamous Jeremiah Hogg!!! beginning to think that this family didn't do anything by halves!! |

They had some funny ways of describing stuff back then, didn#t they? Even in the 1960s when my mum nearly died of what they called 'Brain Fever' - we now know that it was more than likely to have been severe vestibular disease (to do with the middle or inner ear) with the infection spreading up into the brain - which is what I had myself for almost 6 weeks recently. I suppose brain affection could have meant so many things - a label for whenever they weren't entirely sure but they knew it was something to do with the brain - could have been a brain tumour, haemorrage, meningitis or some other infection. |

From www.antiquusmorbus.*com: Affection Any existing disorder of the whole body, or part of it: as hysterics, leprosy, etc. Thus, by adding a descriptive epithet to the term affection, most distempers may be expressed. Perhaps it is like 'Infection of the Brain'?? One of mine died of Softening of the Brain. I translated that as Soft in the Head and am convinced that it is hereditary. |

Would like to thank little nell for her wonderful archaic death site. This one however is not on it and wonder if anyone else has had this......Affection of the brain? what on earth does this mean? It conjures up all sorts of pictures. One of my friends said it was madness, but how can you die of that?!!LOL |
