	The great grandparents of one of my uncles is shown as a 'Naturalised British Subject' Is there any way of checking when this took place and would the records show their original surname ? My uncles grandfather was born in Bolton, Lancs in 1846 - both his parents were German Angie

Member Since: January 2003 Posts: 306 Send Message	Hi Angie, The National Archives at Kew keep the list of Naturalised British subject. Go to their web site and under catalogue put in naturalisation in search box. You will get a list of dates and names. When you find what you are looking for you can send for records. You need to know the original German name not what it was angliced to. Hope this helps Sylvia. Ps, just reread your message. It is normally quite easy to guess what the name was from the anglicised version. My rellie was Francis William Commer in England His German name was Franz Wilhelm Kommer. Just be imaginative!
