Is it possible to check on the records from a known hospital or institution? One of my relatives lived in some sort of hospital in Winick (between Warrington and Wigan, Lancs) in the early 1900's and I would like to find out more about her life. I don't know anything other than her name, parents names and year of birth. I would appreciate any suggestions? Annette |

Ihope you don't mind the correction but I think its 'Winwick Hospital' you're looking for - it was a psychiatric hosp which closed in 1997. There are some sites for it but as yet havent been able to trail old notes. You will want the 'Access to records officer' but I'm unsure who holds them. I too am looking for a relative who was housed there in the 1930's.If I get any info I'll let you know. Jen PS having done this before with other records they do like to know d.o.death if youve got it. |

Jennifer - yes you are right the correct spelling is Winwick. I have contacted the Cheshire Records Office for more information - if you go on the website that Horatia posted and do a search for Winwick Hospital you will get more info on the types of records available and where to access them.
