The sequins scared the cat and rubbed in the wrong places.Felt a bit like sand sticking to the sun tan oil!!! Good for foiling speed cameras though.(Tip;split the commission with me on this one) Glen

I cant find that girl earlier though Glen. And if she were in service, as you know they often get age and place of birth wrong. How nice of you to nose around my pages. Nite all, Im off to bed. Glen, have you not tried the sequinned thong I sent you as that tinsel must be so erm, sweaty this weather. xx

Hi Heather I have seen that one and it was found earlier today,i'm pretty certain that she is a different one.Her father had remarried in 1868 in Norwich and by 1871 was in Lincoln, but only had the youngest child with him. One of the remaining kids in the workhouse and one with grandmother but the rest are missing. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Home page now updated by the way, after having a nose around at yours again and getting inspired. Glen

What about this girl, or have you discounted her 71: Martha Elma abt 1853 West Winch, Norfolk, England Housemaid Weybourne Norfolk

Yes Heather she does.Married by 1885. I'm just tearing the remaining hair out trying to place her and her sibs in the 71,they are pretty damned elusive. Best suggestion so far was by Merry, saying they were all 'en route' to another area and missed the census, but to miss four members of the family and find them appear twenty years later in three different places is bugging me. Glen, Anything is possible, found one of my rellies in 1841 transcribed as hugh hughes instead of hugh humphreys how on earth i dont know!! luckily hes with his parents and i knew his fathers name and occupation so that fitted in, but his mothers, brothers and possibly sisters surname had been transcribed as something completly different.

Thing is Glen, she turns up with maiden name in the 81 - as you probably know: View Record Martha Thornton Elmes abt 1855 Billingford, Norfolk, England Servant Thornton in Fylde Lancashire

I did notice the marital status, but having checked the full ancestry images i can't find a marriage or a birth in the name.Granted the birth might not be registered but the marriage? Still looking to be sure though. Glen

I think the clue is in the 'boarders' bit. 'Hey, what's those boarders of ours called again?' 'ooh, let me think..its something like Aleman' 'Where they from, then?' 'Oooh, I'm sure she said Norwich' OC

Glen - that 1871 entry is husband, wife & baby. And it looks to me like they were called ALLMAN. He was a boot rivetter. This could be the marriage of the above >>Edward Allman 1870 Jul-Aug-Sep Norwich Norfolk Rose Ann C Amiss 1870 Jul-Aug-Sep Norwich Norfolk Henry John R Mallett 1870 Jul-Aug-Sep Norwich Norfolk >>Martha Francis Mollett 1870 Jul-Aug-Sep Norwich Norfolk

Not anymore, they have got very threadbare.I did wonder about the place but in the later census her name is wrongly transcribed and place of birth also quoted as Norwich. Clutching at straws now,but i will find the Elmer children one way or another. Glen

OMG, Glen, you are getting a bit close to home now. I have Ellinors mistrans as Elmers.

Unknown Report 19 Jun 2006 22:41

I imagine its quite easy for Elmer to sound like Aleman (especially if you've drunk a fair bit of ale to start with) BUT I would be happier if the birthplace was the same. Knickers still scratchy?
