(second request in one day for help - sorry!) I have just renewed and upgraded my Norton, all working fine, had confirmation email everything done and finished. Now I keep getting a thing saying my protection is about to run out. Do I just ignore this, or should I get in touch with them please? |

I had something like that last year after I renewed. I emailed them and they sorted it out. I think I quoted the reference from the confirmaiton email. From memory I got an email back telling me it was sorted and next time I did a live update it was all ok. I know many people on here don't like Norton but I've used it for years and never had a problem. I don't get the annoying adverts on this site that others seem to get and have never yet had any virus;s or trojans. Best to email them, better to be safe than sorry Caz |

Thank you Caz - and I agree with you - never had any problems with them. However, I cannot find an email address to get in touch, only help line numbers!!! |

I bought my Norton Antivirus from Play*com (replace * with .) It cost about £18. A BIG saving. For problems on your Norton contact www.symantecstore*com (replace * with .) Ann :) |

Sally....try going directly to the Norton site and update from the site...this might get rid of the pop-up your getting: http://www.symantec(.)com/downloads/index.jsp Remember to remove the ( ) from the address. As for AVG, it's one of the best free programs to be had but you get what what you pay for (opposed to say Norton or McAfee.) Our shop techs install this on customers PC when they (the client) don't or can't put the money out for a 'pay for' program. Judy |

Im surprised about that Judy - when a virus wiped my pc a few years back, I took to the local computer shop and both the guys there are MS certified. They said dump the Mcafee paid for (which had let the virus in) and go for the AVG7. In actual fact I ignored them cos Id paid for it so I was going to get my moneys worth BUT when I got another bad virus, I tried a run through with the free AVG download and it found not 1 but 2 viurs and a trojan which old Mcafee hadnt noticed. Thats when I took it off and just had the AVG plus the zone alarm fire wall download. |

There are two main dangers to be picked up on the internet which are viruses and spyware. They are both completely different things. Spybot should be run every week to make sure you haven't picked up any spyware. I use Norton and that protects against viruses AND spyware. Products like McAfee and Norton and AVG protect against viruses. I'm sure AVG is very good but with Norton Internet Security I get Anti virus protection, spyware protection and it blocks most of the ads and it has a firewall. I'm afraid AVG won't do all of that and no one would expect it to - it is free. Cheers, Horatia Be careful. Some products are just anti virus they don't ALL have firewalls |

The Windows Firewall isn't really good enough. Norton with a Firewall is usually called Norton Internet Security and comes with AV (anti virus) AND a Firewall. However, you can just buy Norton anti virus on its own with no firewall. You should try to ascertain what you have or haven't got. Adaware is a good programme for removing adware and spyware. Cheers, Horatia |

I have AVG7 plus the free zone alarm firewall plus the free spy bot and the MS ad thingy. AVG7 scans all my incoming and outgoing mails (it stops any mails with viruses and informs you - they just found one in some silly email headed Your diamond order or something!) I suppose none of them are 100% or viruses and trojans wouldnt exist at all. There is a site - I cant remember the name now - where you can ask them to check how 'invisible' your pc is to hackers and the like. When I ran it a little while back it said mine was totally invisible so well, what more can you do? And for all that and my carefulness over shredding stuff etc some crooks still managed to get £340 quids worth of stuff off my credit card number a couple of weeks back. The crooks are just as clever as the security people unfortunately. |
